Can Microsoft go the distance?

Site Issues

After giving into the php bug, I have got the code issues straighten out. So things should not change much for a while. I got the random header images working, to spice the place up a little.

On my mind

I was reading a thread over at Sitepoint. It was postings of peoples desktops. Half of the desktops posted have been Linux machines. It makes me wonder if I should try building a machine to serve as a Linux desktop.. I tried it a couple years ago but the applications for Linux were lacking. I’ll have to give it some thought.

In the Industry

It always amazes me how threatened Microsoft feels by competition. They only own 90 percent of the desktops in the world. In the late 90’s when Linux first hit the scene Microsoft executives joked at it being a fad that will die as fast as it started. Now 5 years later that is not the case. Linux is slowly taking over the business sector and increasing it’s hold on the desktop users. An article at Microsoft Watch farther claims that state governments are introducing bills that would force government agencies to go with Open Source Software. Unless Microsoft changes it’s business schema in the coming weeks this would mean Linux systems running the government. Could Linux be the David that takes down the Golith Redmond Microsoft..
