I have this idea, since I don’t have time to post during the week I would start pre-writing my posts. This would allow me to post in the matter of minutes rather than the usual hour or so it takes.

Unable to Delete AVI files

I downloaded a corrupted AVI file and like any other corrupted file I tried to send it to the recycle bin, but it wouldn’t go. It kept giving me this error stating it was being used by another process, yet it wasn’t.

It turns out that Windows XP preloads all AVI files on highlight. The corrupted AVI file caused windows to be stuck in an infinite loop while attempting to read it. After an intensive internet search I came across a FAQ describing how to delete the file by deleting a registry entry. To learn more about the process here is the link http://www.xchange101.org/tips55.htm.

Windows Update not working

I recently installed Windows XP and went to Microsoft’s Windows update page but windows update kept give me an error. I could not figure out what the problem was so like an amateur I reinstalled windows again. Which of course did nothing to fix the problem; it turns out windows update issues a security certificate that has a lifespan of one. If the computer’s clock is set before the creation date of the certificate windows update will not work. Lesson learned: check the computer clock before reinstalling windows.
