My Laptop
I have an HP laptop. The fans run almost all the time. It’s embarrassing, it sounds like a jet engine. (And no I do not have spy ware/viruses, this is at room temp)
The laptop has a 2.4 P4 socket 478, manufactured in ’01 in the Philippines. My goal is to put a new P4 that will run cooler than my current P4. I am hoping that 4 years later the same chip runs cooler.
I’ve searched on the net for thermal specs and have not turned up much. What I do know is the Prescott core runs hotter than the Northwood core (presumably what I have). However how does the Prescott core run at 2.4ghz? I’ve also considered installing a Celeron.
I’ve always attributed the problem to a poor design coupled with HP trying to being first to market with 2.4 GHz laptops. 6 months later the issue was resolved in the same laptop (a friend bought one).
