Battling Death to the Death

My thoughts do not have anything to do with the post. Just the image I saw when I read the passage below.

I saw a man clinging to life. His nails digging into life. While death pulled him into the darkness.

Anthropologist Ernest Becker wrote at length about transference, both as fear of life and death. As fear of life:

“The fact is that fascination is a reflex of the fatality of the human condition… the human condition is just too much for the animal to take; it is overwhelming.”

Human lives are based on life, yet we know death will overcome us. We battle death. With our dying breath we fight. We fight knowing we will lose. We may gain a reprieve, but darkness will prevail against our wavering light.
